Andy Hawkins Bio

Andy Hawkins did the thing everyone dreams of doing; he quit his job of 7 years, started writing songs, and has just released his first EP and recently embarked upon his first tour.

It didn’t happen overnight, but after years of playing in cover bands or as a side-man in various acoustic projects, he knew he had to do something about his 60 hour work weeks and unforgiving boss.

Inspired by ‪Bob Dylan, ‪Brian Fallon (‪Gaslight Anthem), ‪Billy Bragg, ‪Chuck Ragan and ‪Frank Turner, Andy signed up for songwriting coaching with Canadian songwriter ‪Billy Pettinger. He traded in his long, relentless work days for a gig as a security guard, so that he could focus on writing.

Within a year, he was in Alabama recording his debut EP As Soon As It Is Written (‪May 15 2019). Andy was then out testing his new material at local gigs and open mics in preparation for the support slot touring the UK with ‪Billy Pettinger (July 2019).

His unique voice has been described as reminiscent of ‪Matt Berninger (The National), ‪Johnny Cash and ‪Tom Waits. His lyrics exude the thoughtful layers and in-depth processing that could only be found in songs written by a guy who became a security guard just so that he could have more time to work on songs.

Expect to see lots more from Andy, as his drive and determination already put him in the ring with often overused words like “prolific”.
